Catie & Rich’s Wedding
Here’s Catie and Rich’s Wedding at St David’s Cathedral in Wales.
Whenever I travel to shoot a wedding there I always have the absolute best time. I don’t know if it’s the location or the people I’m having fun alongside with but without fail I’ve never had a bad wedding in Wales.
Catie and Rich’s wedding is also a lesson to all couples on how to cope with things going wrong. Sometimes no matter how much you plan things out, nail down your timings and think heavily about your day ahead stuff can come out of nowhere and test your resolve.
I started their day with Rich at the Roch Castle Hotel before heading a quick drive down the road to see Catie and her family.. When we arrived at St David’s I was awestruck by how beautiful it was. I love massive buildings like this which are full of history. When all was said and done there we travels to Newgale Beach for photos where Rich proposed to Catie.
Their reception was in a Marquee adjoining a village hall. The problems started here with the caterer being unable to cook anything as the supplied oven was without power and the gas was off!
This was something that delayed food service by about three hours. At one point I was having a discussion with the couple about whether to arrange take out instead. Something which you’d think would be simple(ish) but I asked abot pizza but there wasn’t enough bases proved and McDonalds wasn’t answering their phone when we tried to see if they could feed 200 people.
The reason the power wasn’t on was because the cooker was on a seperate trip in a locked room. The gas was manually swtiched off outside. Apparently the previous hirers of the village hall had been so safety cautious they turned every off, even the gas supply outside!
Food stated to come out as the band began to play and everyone still danced regardless. Unfortunately the cake was next to the dancefloor, which was a bit wobbly and someone walking by knocked the side of the table and the top tier fell off.
So here’s the thing….
It was unfortunate, but nobody really cared. Everyone was there to have a good time and that’s what they had, led by Catie and Rich.
I’ve had weddings before where the couple wouldn’t go outside because it had (stopped) raining three hours ago but the bride at the time didn’t want to get the bottom of her dress damp and as such we had photos indoor. The same dress was covered in red wine 2 hours later.
Weddings can often be looked upon as a living entity and they will take you where they want you to go. Enjoy the experience whatever happens!
